Summit of the leaders of the European Union and the Western Balkans will be held this Wednesday in Brussels, one year after the Summit held in Tirana.
Prime Minister Edi Rama will also be part of this meeting, while the focus of the summit will remain the strategic partnership between the EU and the Western Balkans region.
The main topics of discussion at this summit will be:
Deepening political and political engagement with the Western Balkans
The rapprochement of the partners of the Western Balkans with the EU and the advancement of gradual integration
Building economic foundations for the future and mitigating the impact of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine
Strengthening security and building resilience
The leaders are expected to issue a statement at the end of the summit.
The European Union aims to bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU, preparing the ground for membership and bringing concrete benefits to their citizens during the enlargement process.
Also, the Summit will be an opportunity to discuss coordinated actions related to security issues, which have become even more important in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine. This includes combating foreign information manipulation and enhancing collective cyber security.
The last summit between the leaders of the EU and the Western Balkans took place in Tirana in December 2022 and was the first summit held in the Western Balkans region.
