Prime Minister Edi Rama declared today that he supports the idea of going back to an open-list electoral system.
“We have decided to support the demand for the opening of the list, in order for every voter to vote his favourite party and MP,” the PM said.
The Prime Minister also said that the decision to open the lists is something that the majority of Albanian people want and that this goes beyond a governing majority or a minority. Rama said that he knows that this will be interpreted and will be made to look as if it’s a breach of the June 5 agreement.
“I know that there’ve been attempts to make this look like a breach of the June 5 agreement, but the truth is that we have willingly accepted this agreement by sometimes stepping over our principles”, Rama said.
The PM said that the size of constituencies will not be changed and neither there will be any changes with the Central Election Commission.
The head of the government also said that the opposition outside parliament has zero alibis to demand or ask for guarantees and claim that the opening of the lists ruins the agreement./abcnews.al
