Prime Minister Edi Rama participated this Friday in the inauguration of Derviçani square in Dropull, which will bear the name of Konstantinos Mitsotakis.
In his speech, Rama said that the bust of Mitsotakis, who was the first Greek prime minister to visit Dropulli, will stand as a symbol of the historical truth that unites the two neighboring peoples.
As he dwelled on the life and role of Konstantinos Mitsotakis in Greece, Rama said that his “return” to Derviçani Square is the right place and time.
Furthermore, Rama emphasized that his son, the current Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, would also like to participate in the inauguration.
“It seemed reasonable to me to sketch here today the thread of the novel brought to life by this emblematic character of the neighboring country’s politics, who was the first Greek prime minister who came down to Albania and visited Derviçan.
His return to this square through this bust that the sculptor Adi Dule has done with great success and desire, either because he too spent several years in Greece as an immigrant but also because the portrait of the old Mitsotakis, I think is a proper return in the right place and the right time of the right man to grace with his eternal presence the inseparable bond of the Greek minority with Greece, which he restored after a long and painful rupture with his arrival 33 years ago.
I would have wished that Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the son of Constantine, today’s prime minister of Greece and my dear friend, would have been here today, but he will surely return to this square, especially as he has promised them, where from today the square bears his father’s name”, said Rama.
