Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken of the European plan for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, stating that it is the best so far, where the parties get what they deserve and it is a “de facto” recognition of Kosovo by Serbia.
During a conversation in the auditorium of the Royal Institute of International Relations in London, the Albanian Head of Government supported the idea that a united Balkan economy would be a very important contribution to strengthening stability and peace.
Furthermore, he added that currently the Albanians in the region are in a very favorable position.
“I think the document on the table is the best where both parties can get what is due to them. Both sides are very close to war and the smell of blood is still strong to the point that they cannot take the final steps. This is the right way and “de facto” recognition of Kosovo’s right to live and decide on its own. It is a “de facto” recognition of Serbia where there should be normal relations with Kosovo. The only point is whether they are implemented, but the Balkans is a country with many pitfalls. But let’s see.
It is part of a whole transformation that the Balkans is experiencing. Albanians are in the best position they have ever been in. Relations in the Balkans have never been better. We have an elephant in the room in any agreement with the Serbs, because of Kosovo. And for that we have to keep Serbia on our side, because it can take us back to the past. Let’s make sure that the union in the Balkans against the Russian aggression in Ukraine does not fall apart, because if this happens, it could very quickly return us to the past”, said Rama.
