The Prosecutor’s Office at the First Court of General Jurisdiction in Sarandë has reacted regarding the disappearance of two 46-year-olds, Leonard Thodhori and Fatmir Sulovari alias Fatmir Krasniqi, for whom there is no trace for almost 1 month.

The prosecution body emphasizes that it is important to find and arrest the perpetrators, while adding that the incident is under investigation.

“The Prosecutor’s Office at the First Court of General Jurisdiction Sarandë, in cooperation with the judicial police of Pol Police Station. Sarandë and Vlora Local Police Directorate are carrying out procedural actions with high intensity in the function of criminal proceedings no. 169/2023, registered for the criminal offense “Kidnapping or holding a person hostage” provided by article 109/3 of the Criminal Code.

Assessing that the exercise of criminal prosecution and the discovery of the perpetrators of the criminal offense is paramount in the exercise of its constitutional functions, the Sarandë Prosecutor’s Office notes with concern that the latest media information of May 1, 2023, does not serve to reveal the truth, and they don’t even help the law-enforcement bodies to clarify it as soon as possible.

Also, the prosecution body assesses that it is not even in the public interest to publish unverified information that has not been legally distributed by the competent authorities. We estimate that the exposure in the media or social networks of personal deductions from anyone who may come into possession of various information obtained confidentially by persons who benefit from the information due to the duty, not only seriously harms the investigative activity but also places the persons involved or not in the concrete event in unrealistic and unnecessary situations in relation to the interest of the family members of the victims of the criminal offense, in relation to the public interest but also in relation to the investigative authorities themselves.

Understanding the media’s interest in informing the public, the prosecutor’s office requests their commitment to not exposing unverified and unnecessary information, so that this interest does not prevail over the interest of investigating the event, nor over public safety,” the prosecution announced.
