Prime Minister Edi Rama has called on the new justice bodies, namely the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) to investigate January 21, 2011, where four protesters were killed.
Referring to a new audio-tape published in the media, PM Rama says that the justice now must do its job, because Albania is the only country in which democracy is applied and people are killed as they protest.
“Another material came out, authentic, brutally shocking, about the premeditated and cold-blooded murder, with state rifles, of four innocent, unarmed citizens, harmless to anyone, the killers not only do they continue to roam free, they are also playing one of the most important roles in the life of the country?!
The democratic system does not recognize opening fire with combat bullets on a crowd as a state right, it is considering it a serious crime and in the history of Europe of at least the last 100 years, including the Europe of the Cold War, democratic Albania it is the only place where combat fire has been opened on the crowd. Deadly combat fire uninvestigated, untried and certainly unpunished for 12 years! A farcical process on this state crime, unseen and unheard of in the history of Europe, totally overlooked the screaming truth of a premeditated murder, even warned and not accepted with the most humiliating arrogance by the orderers.
The old justice, rotten and subdued, re-murdered the four murdered, trampled savagely on the wounds of their families, brutally raped the orphans of the four fathers, denying them equality before the law and giving Albanians the most bitter and discouraging message potential for unequal justice in their homeland.
The new justice system, with its key institution, created entirely by a strong popular and political will, national and international, for the investigation of organized crime and the corruption of high officials, which should have started its life with this bloody stone of the collapsed foundations of equality before the law of this country, not only did not return to the place of this crime with terribly deforming, deep and long-term consequences for the political and democratic culture of Albania, it pretended it did not exist nothing to do with it, despite the fact that one of the strongest motives of the mass popular support of the justice reform (from which SPAK itself was born as the embodiment of a great hope) was precisely the national need for justice for January 21.
Today, this is also one of the main reasons for the popular disappointment with the reform in justice – whoever denies or questions both the first and the second, does not understand or does not want to understand the essence and historical consequences on the rule of law, of the action or inaction of the remedy of justice for the tragic wound of January 21.
The good news, however, is that it is never too late for justice. And despite the fact that the macabre crime of January 21 did not need new evidence, with the new evidence of the last few weeks, and especially with the shocking audio recording published in the last few days, the return of the new justice to the country of crime of 12 years ago, would be the dramatic confirmation of her submission to the disgusting inertia of the old justice”, stated Rama.
