An amount of about 330 thousand euros was discovered in the cabin of a truck traveling from Italy to the port of Durres. The border police of Durres found 150,000 euros and 164,735 British pounds during an inspection of the vehicle, a sum of money which was not declared by the truck driver, a 53-year-old man with the initials D.H., a resident of Tirana.
The driver was placed in handcuffs for the criminal offenses of “Failure to declare cash and valuables at the border”, “Concealing income” and “Cleaning the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity”.
While the police are working to identify and capture the owner/s of the sums of money in euros and pounds.
“The investigative structures of the General Directorate of the State Police, following successive operations carried out in the port of Durres, thanks to information intelligence about a citizen who was trying to bring a large amount of money in euros and pounds into Albania, have organized work in order to attack this case.
In cooperation with the Border Police of the port of Durres and the Sector for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes at the DVP Durrës, they organized and finalized the coded police operation “Amount”, in the framework of which it was passed for detailed control, in the second line, the truck driven by citizen D. H., 53 years old, resident in Tirana, who was traveling from Italy to the port of Durres.
During the detailed inspection, the Police found 150,000 euros and 164,735 British pounds hidden in the cab of the truck, which were seized as material evidence.
In cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office, the work continues for the clarification and complete documentation of this case, the identification and capture of the possessors of these sums of money in euros and pounds,” the police said.
