The court of Stasburg has given the decision for Aleks Nika. It should be noted that in connection with this event there are two violations in this matter: Murder and then not investigating the murder!

In the decision of the Strasbourg Court, it is emphasized that the state is responsible for the murder of Aleks Nika, while adding that the culprit must be punished. The court assesses that the law of the time and the plan of measures did not guarantee the lives of the protesters, thus charging the state with responsibility for the murder of Aleks Nika.

Furthermore, in the 48-page decision, it is emphasized that the investigation must be carried out and the culprit, whoever he may be, must be punished.

Also, the Human Rights Court clarifies that the authorities have failed to conduct an effective investigation regarding this event. “The European Court of Human Rights blames the Albanian state for not justifying the murder of 4 protesters on January 21.

It is emphasized that for not taking measures by the Guard of the Republic, the Albanian state becomes responsible again”, reported journalist Ermal Vija.

The family members of Aleks Nika, who died in a hospital in Turkey after being shot during the January 21st protest, appealed to the Strasbourg court as they accuse the State Police and the Prosecutor’s Office of doing too little to investigate the investigation file. In their complaint addressed to the court in Strasbourg, Nika’s family members accuse the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, as well as the Minister of the Interior at the time and the current leader of the opposition, Luzlim Basha, of obstructing investigations, disappearing evidence and non-execution of decisions.

Aleks Nika was one of the four victims of the violent protest on January 21, 2011, when supporters of the Socialist Party, then in opposition, clashed with the Police and the Guard of the Republic in front of the Prime Minister’s office on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard.

The protest was called by the Socialist Party after the publication of a video, where the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former speaker of the parliament at the time, Ilir Meta, seemed to be discussing a corrupt affair with the former Minister of Economy, Dritan Prifti.

As a result of the shooting by the Guard of the Republic, on January 21, 2011, in addition to Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda and Faik Myrtaj were killed, as well as several other protesters were injured.
