Democratic Party has submitted a project proposal to the Assembly, where it requests the removal of the immunity of the deputies.
The Secretary for Electoral Reform and the legal representative of Democratic Party, Rezart Kthupi said that the proposal foresees that within five days of the approval, the appropriate procedures for the removal of immunity will be undertaken.
“Democratic Party has maintained a constant and coherent position on the immunity of the deputy, considering the latter a symbol of the inequality between the elected and their constituents.
In the wake of these long-standing positions, the DP has filed yesterday in the Assembly a project proposal, which aims to create the legal basis for the complete removal of the immunity of the MPs.
The draft decision on the amendment of the Assembly’s regulations creates the legal basis for the deputies, within five days from the approval of the proposal or from the beginning of the legislature, to file with the Speaker of the Assembly, a written statement, in which they waive the parliamentary procedures for the removal of immunity by open to justice in taking preventive measures of arrest in the case of criminal investigations.
Democratic Party estimates that the reform in justice has recently produced an independent justice and not captured by politics, which has created trust and has wide citizen support in its work to investigate and attack the high corruption of politics and state administration.
In the conditions of an independent justice, Democratic Party estimates that any stance against the complete removal of the MP’s immunity is an attempt to prevent the investigation of corruption of politicians or people connected to them,” he said./abcnews.al
