A man from Durrës has been handcuffed by the police in the city of Korça this Friday, after he was caught transporting illegal immigrants.
The 56-year-old had packed 15 immigrants in the van type vehicle, which he would transport against payment, to the border with Kosovo, in order to cross illegally into this country and then towards the EU countries.
Perpetrator’s vehicle, a mobile device and a sum of money were seized as material evidence. Afterwards, the procedural materials were passed to the Prosecution at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction Korça, for further actions.
“Specialists for the Investigation of Illegal Traffic and Narcotics of DVP Korçë, in cooperation with the services of the Devoll Police Station, organized and finalized the coded police operation “Midnight 9”.
As a result of this operation, a citizen was arrested in the act: G. A., 56 years old, resident in Durrës. The Police Services, on the basis of the information provided by the information intelligence, for a citizen who would transport foreign citizens for payment, in order for them to cross the border illegally, organized actions on the “Bilisht-Korçë” road axis, near Cangonj village, Devoll, made it possible to locate the suspect vehicle. During the search of the van, 15 illegal immigrants were found.
From the entirety of the investigative actions and the evidence provided, it turned out that the 56-year-old would transport illegal immigrants, against payment, to the border with Kosovo, in order to cross illegally into this country and then towards the EU countries”, informed the police.
