The head of the Special Prosecution, Altin Dumani, has signed on Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding with the Director General of the National Crime Agency (NCA), Graeme Biggar, of the United Kingdom.
This memorandum marks another important step of SPAK, towards strengthening the fight against corruption and organized crime inside and outside the country. Today’s act is also a historic moment for both institutions, as it is the first agreement that the NCA has signed with an investigative structure in Albania, such as SPAK.
The main purpose of this memorandum is to institutionalize the successful partnership already established between SPAK and NCA, in the joint effort to fight organized crime, money laundering and corruption of high public officials.
This cooperation is deepened and made more sustainable through this memorandum, which will help accelerate the exchange of information and best practices in the field of criminal justice.
This memorandum envisages a continuous commitment of the two parties to strengthen cooperation between them and to facilitate relations with other law enforcement agencies in increasing the fight against international organized crime. The representatives of both institutions expressed their deep belief that the close cooperation between them will bring concrete results in cracking down on some of the most important activities of Albanian criminal groups in the United Kingdom and Albania, mainly in drug trafficking, human trafficking, firearms trafficking and money laundering.
Strengthening SPAK’s relations with the NCA in the fight against corruption and organized crime has a direct impact on the security and stability of the rule of law in Albania, the United Kingdom and throughout the European Union.
In closing, the two parties expressed their willingness to immediately take concrete steps to investigate the issues and develop cooperation, including in other aspects related to the most advanced financial investigation strategies./abcnews.al
