“The French proposal is very broad. It is good that member states have their proposals but we have to wait for the new European Commission team to start the work in order to achieve unanimity for the opening of negotiations with the two countries ”.
This statement Finnish Foreign Minister Tytti Turpurainen made it at the opening of the General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels today.
From the beginning Finland has been one of the countries that have supported Albania, for opening the negotiations and has been engaged to lobby other member states to make a positive decision on October 18th.
Finnish Foreign Minister Tytti Turpurainen also holds the EU presidency.
While Amélie DE Montchalin, Secretary of State for European Affairs said:
“We see that membership negotiations with Serbia and Montenegro have weaknesses. We want to make the process more productive, the most tangible and beneficial to the citizens of the Balkans. There are other countries that support France, such as Denmark, the Netherlands, but also Italy is urging the EC to propose enlargement reform. /abcnews.al
