The Court of Special Appeal has approved the decision of the first instance, leaving in force the measure of prison arrest against the former mayor of the municipality of Durres, Vangjush Dako, ABC News journalist Ermal Vija reports. He will continue to stay in prison, where he is accused of abuse of duty in two cases.

His request was reviewed by the appeal judge Daniela Shirka, who rejected his request for freedom.

Dako was arrested on June 6 by order of the Special Prosecutor’s Office on the suspicion of abuse of office in two cases.

The first related to the granting of permission for the construction of a building in Durres in violation of the law and the tender for the purchase of a project for the development of the coastline that increased its value 10-fold.

Dako gave clarifications in front of the Court claiming that it was the members of the bid evaluation committee who gave the permission and not him, but he signed.

Together with Dako, were issued 10 arrest warrants, 6 of which were executed by the police.
