President Bajram Begaj, on the second day of his visit to Cosenza in Calabria, also stopped at “Spezzano Albanese”, where he was received by the Arber community and the local authorities.

To welcome the head of state, Albanian citizens who fled the country in recent years arrived in Calabrian Arberia from other Italian cities. After greetings and meetings with them, President Begaj paid a visit to the “Spezzano Albanese” museum, which preserves the history of the Arber community.

In the meetings held with the local authorities in “Spezzano Albanese”, the mayor of this municipality announced the initiative to include the Arberian language in schools, an initiative that was promised to President Begaj by representatives of the Calabria Region for becoming a promoter of the implementation of this project by Regional Council of Calabria.

The Head of State expressed his thanks and promised support for moving this initiative forward. Afterwards, President Begaj held a meeting with the mayors of Arbëresh municipalities and municipalities in “San Demetrio Corone”, in the presence of the prefect of Kozena.

A special plaque dedicated to the visit of the President of Albania was unveiled today near the “Sant’ Adriano” college. The Head of State honored the College, from which well-known names of the literary, academic and intellectual world and patriots have emerged such as Luigj Gurakuqi and Aleksandër Xhuvani, and many others with a contribution to both Albania and Italy.

President Begaj appreciated the solidarity of the peoples of the two countries in every critical period as well as the role of the Calabrians in maintaining ties with their homeland.

President Begaj emphasized the importance of solidarity for the preservation of relations between Albania and Italy, referring to historical examples of opening doors for Arbërsi centuries ago and later for Albanians who escaped from isolation after the fall of the regime.
