This Monday, Prime Minister Edi Rama was present at the Qafe-Thane border crossing point, where he emphasized the importance of customs unification between the two countries, Albania and North Macedonia, which will affect economic development.

Among other things, Rama has expressed that it is important that we facilitate trade procedures as much as possible so that institutions do not have unnecessary obstacles and delays at customs.

He emphasized that he expects the Ministry of the Interior in Albania and North Macedonia to work together next season to make it possible for cars with Albanian and Macedonian license plates to pass without control.

“Today is an important moment for all those who pass through this border point, whether individuals or companies that trade between the two countries.

An extraordinary impact of the transformation of its image and like no other year the flow of tourists and the number of large international investors interested in investing in the tourism industry in Albania together with the Albanians of the diaspora and those in the country is very encouraging.

Over 770,000 citizens have moved to this border point from the very beginning, and the simplified one-stop procedure is what they need.

I hope that both ministries of the interior will go to another level in this peak season period and then in the following to make the passage without control or with random control for cars with Albanian or North Macedonian license plates to facilitate also more about this procedure”, said Rama.

According to him, both countries are on the path of integration towards the unification of customs, a decision that should not be waited for by the EU, but should be worked on in order to reduce moving procedures. Among other things, he spoke about the Eighth corridor and the blue one, where he emphasized the fact that both of these projects are under development and hopes that they will be put at the service of the citizens as soon as possible, avoiding as much as possible the torture and vicissitudes that they have passed so far.

“This is an important step, but the final goal is the unification of the customs that will come with the full integration of the two countries in the EU, but we do not have to wait for this to make the idea possible.

There were many skeptics when we started this process, but in the meantime the results speak better and better every day to make the space between us a space that coexists like in the EU without waiting to be integrated into the EU,” said Rama.
