German government deputy spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer announced that german chancellor Angela Merkel is going to meet with albanian prime minister Edi Rama on Monday in Berlin.
The focus of the conversation will be on the assistance that Germany can provide for earthquake damage recovery on November 26, 2019.
Albanian prime minister Edi Rama had announced a meeting with the german chancellor as part of his visit to Rome, where he received the promise of Italy’s support at the donor conference, which will take place in Brussels on 17 February 2020 under the leadership of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Rama said during an informal conversation with Italy’s Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio that the cost of recovering earthquake-damaged areas is estimated to be around 1 billion euros so far.
Another topic of discussion, according to Demmer, will be Albania’s next presidency in the OSCE, bilateral relations, the situation in the region and the European perspective of the EU.
Angela Merkel and Germany are committed to open the negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia as soon as possible.
After last week conversation with Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic, Merkel has refused to treat the two Western Balkan countries separately.
“If we want to be fair, then we have to treat the two countries together, although they will then follow different procedures, based on the estimates that will be made to them, “stated Merkel./abcnews.al
