Early parliamentary elections are being held today in Montenegro, which were called after the government of Albanian Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic was ousted by a motion of no confidence in the parliament last fall.
In these elections, 15 parties and coalitions compete for 81 seats in the parliament. Voting centers opened this morning at 07:00 and citizens will be able to vote until 20:00. According to Montenegrin analysts and various polls, the “Europe Now” movement, which was formed in the middle of last year and to which the newly elected president of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, belongs, is expected to lead. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Socialists, of ex-president Milo Djukanovic, is expected to emerge as the second force in these elections, which for the first time goes to the elections with a new leader and in a coalition with several small parties.
Two coalitions of Albanian parties also participate in these elections: the Albanian Forum with the mayor of the Municipality of Tuzi, Nik Gjeloshaj and the Coalition of the Albanian Alliance with the experienced MP Genc Nimanbegu.
None of the participating subjects is expected to get the majority of 41 seats in the parliament to create the government alone, so the biggest chance after the elections is in the coalitions. Albanian parties aim to get two deputies in the Parliament of Montenegro. These are the sixth parliamentary elections since the declaration of independence of Montenegro, in which more than 542 thousand citizens have the right to vote.
